DS Replacement Shell Review

Hey guys, I have another review ready and this is actually my first hardware only review, unlike my M3 Review which I covered a tiny bit of software, anyways, let's get started!

Intro:

This standard black replacement case I am reviewing I bought from http://dealextreme.com, it is a very durable case, I would like to say first off, nice and strong, but of course, with all case replacements, it is very difficult to change the case if is your first time modding a Nintendo DS Lite without losing any pieces, and maybe breaking something.

Content:

Within the package that you receive it in has a little extra goodies for you, just in case you misplace a piece, extra screws and buttons, which sadly you have to use the buttons and directional pad given because they have odd plastic pieces on them, that make them fit into the case itself.

So the content in total is:
1x DS replacement shell
2x Extra screen edges(The black part in this case, it's the protective cover for the top and bottom screen)
1x Stylus
1x GameBoy Advance "Dummy" Pak
1x Power Button
1x Volume Button
1x A, B, X, Y, Start, Select, L button, R button, and a Directional Pad
6x Pads to cover the screws in the top screen and the sides of the DS
2x Pads to cover the screws in the bottom of the DS
2x Springs for the L and R buttons
15x Screws, just in case you lose yours
2x bars, for the springs of the L and R buttons
1x Metal ring, for the left side of the DS, so it holds the screen
1x Power/Charging Light
1x Battery Case

(The right one is a bit gimped because I had it folded)

As you see, this replacement case has all the pieces of the original DS case, just in case something happens to your screws or pads, or even your buttons.

This case was a real tough one to put together, since I was new to replacing cases, and it was tough, but the case was nice and knowing that I had two times as much as I needed helped, just in case I stripped a screw or something mis-fortunate happened like losing a screw.

Durability:

Even though I wasn't able to put my case on properly and lost a power button in the process, this case still holds up wonderfully, but the hinge is a bit too tight then the original case, making it tough to open and close, and occasionally made a squeaking a noise. It is a very good case, considering it is a good knock-off of the original DS Lite case, it even has the little bar code strip on the bottom of it, making it look even more legitimatize, but it's the little things on the case when you open it, you will notice some of the stuff is different in it, like how the A, B, X, and Y buttons have little extra spots in them, for the new buttons, so you don't misplace the buttons and has A where B is and Y where X is.

Overall:
Contents: 10/10 It has everything the original DS Lite case has, making it a complete case mod. It is also a nice and affordable case to buy.

Ease Of Use: 5/10 Since it is a case mod, it is obviously hard to do and requires some skill, and the fact you can not use your original buttons doesn't really contribute to this mark. Also it doesn't help that you have to have every last little bit of the DS board and top screen the exact way you put it, or it will not be flush and you will have a corner sticking out quite noticeably when you put the case back on.

Durability: 9/10 This replacement case is very strong and doesn't break easily, but the only con is that the hinge is way to tight and doesn't work very well if the screws are on too tight and may squeak.

Total: 24/30 I really enjoyed replacing my shell/case on my Nintendo DS Lite, even though it was tedious and time consuming because, it was my first time ever taking apart an electronic that small, but was very rewarding in the end knowing I did something I have never done. This case has nice strength too, but can be too strong because of the hinge, that i have mentioned several times before, but has no chance of breaking by just opening the case.
